I am a clinician scientist at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the LMU Klinikum Munich, Germany, with a PhD from the University of Cambridge and a medical degree from the University of Oxford. As part of my PhD project I investigated the role of structural variations in the genome of breast cancer, using wet lab techniques as well as computational tools. Since January 2020, funding from the Munich Clinician Scientist Programme has enabled me to focus on my research interests in the field of head and neck oncology. My career goal involves integrating work as a head and neck surgeon with translational research using state-of-the-art next generation sequencing technologies. I am particularly interested in the evolution of tumours of the upper aerodigestive tract and how they transition from premalignant lesions into invasive carcinomas in a cancerised field. I am also interested in the identification of molecular markers, such as the use of circulating cell-free tumour DNA for detection of minimal residual disease and molecular relapse in patients with head and neck cancer.
