TARGET Africa - Study of prostate cancer in African men

Despite the fact that incident rates of prostate cancer in Africa are comparable to or lower than those in other parts of the globe, the mortality rate is 3.5 times higher than the global average. The aim of the Target Africa project is to identify endogenous and exogenous factors that lead to higher mortality rates in African men with prostate cancer. To understand the causation of more aggressive prostate cancer in African men genetic, epigenetic, and exposome data, including data on environmental exposures and lifestyle choices, will be collected and analysed in a comprehensive way.

Our team in Manchester will use genomics and cancer signature analysis approaches to identify aetiologies of prostate cancer in African men.
